Volunteers Needed for Great American Cleanup

Virginia Beach Public Works, in collaboration with Parks and Recreation, are enlisting the help of volunteers for Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup (GAC).

Volunteers are needed Saturday, May 17, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The cleanup will be focusing on the Cape Henry Trail (adjacent to Shore Drive) and London Bridge Road at Virginia Beach Boulevard.

Volunteers may also choose to participate in the Storm Drain Marker Challenge, by placing markers on storm drains in the Rudee Inlet and Atlantic Ocean watersheds. Help us improve public awareness of the environmental effects of dumping in storm drains and the resulting water quality issues.

In addition, residents are also encouraged to select an area in their neighborhood, and join the efforts by organizing a cleanup of their own. The city plans to use photos and stories of the neighborhood cleanups in social media and other formats to show the commitment that communities have to Keeping Virginia Beach Beautiful.
