NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
UPDATE
NNO 2011 will be on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011. Heat concerns over the past couple years have prompted the National Association of Town Watch to consider alternative dates. Several Hampton Roads cities, including Virginia Beach, will celebrate on the first Tuesday in October this year. In addition to being cooler, October is also CRIME PREVENTION month.
National Night Out is held annually to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know local communities are organized and are fighting back.
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods celebrate NNO with a variety of events and activities such as: block parties, cookouts, visits from local police and fire departments, parades, flashlight walks, contests and youth programs. NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.
For more information please contact MPO Gillespie at the VBPD Crime Prevention Unit, 385-1331 or hgillesp@vbgov.com Additional information about NNO is also available at
nationaltownwatch.org and NATW.org
Registration forms will be mailed out soon. Start planning your event now, and stay tuned for more information.
