 ctober 4th, 2011. Heat concerns over the past couple years have prompt
 ed the National Association of Town Watch to consider alternative date
 s. Several Hampton Roads cities, including Virginia Beach, will celebr
 ate on the first Tuesday in October this year. In addition to being co
 oler, October is also CRIME PREVENTION month.\nNational Night Out is h
 eld annually to:\n- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;\n- G
 enerate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts;\n- Stre
 ngthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations; and\n- Send
  a message to criminals letting them know local communities are organ
 ized and are fighting back.\nAlong with the traditional display of out
 door lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods ce
 lebrate NNO with a variety of events and activities such as: block par
 ties, cookouts, visits from local police and fire departments, parades
 , flashlight walks, contests and youth programs. NNO has proven to be 
 an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhoo
 d spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer na
 tion. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from NNO will most
