Hosted by the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, Symphonicity and the Virginia Stage Company

Celebrate the arts with the whole family! Join the fun as the City of Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission and the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts presents its annual Kids Arts Palooza on Saturday, Jan. 16, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach. The Sandler Center is located in the Town Center of Virginia Beach, 201 Market St. All the fun is free and open to the public.

The Virginia Stage Company will take the Main Stage at 12:30 p.m. with their rendition of the classic fairytale, “Hansel & Gretel’s Grimm Tale.” This show is suitable for children of all ages. Symphonicity will take the Main Stage at 3:15 p.m. with their popular Lollipop Concert, “It’s Raining Music,” featuring music about weather with special guest, local WAVY News 10 meteorologist Don Slater! This performance is recommended for children in grades K-6. Sign language interpretation will be provided by Mindy Brown & Company for these performances.

No reservation or ticket is required and all performances are free and open to the public.

Other activities throughout the day will further entertain children as well as adults. Visitors will delight in special performances by Krendl the Magician, hands-on children’s art activities, strolling costumed characters, balloon sculptures, and much more! Sample entertainment from local arts and humanities organizations as visitors learn more about all the cultural finds in Hampton Roads. Join us as the arts unite in a day filled with excitement, creativity, and lots of family fun!

The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia will entertain children of all ages with a puppet-making activity based on the characters of Maurice Sendak’s best-selling book, “Where the Wild Things Are.” Be sure to attend this fun, creative activity!

Students from Salem High School’s Visual and Performing Arts Academy will also join the celebration by demonstrating and presenting throughout the day. Students from the Academy’s Vox Harmonia, National Dance Honor Society and the Steel Drum Band will be on hand for mini-performances and interaction.

Join us as the arts unite in a day filled with excitement, creativity, and lots of family fun! For more information, please contact the Sandler Center Box Office at (757) 385-ARTS (2787).
