EVENT DATE:
May 28 2010 - May 30 2010
LOCATION:
17th Street Park
24th Street Park
31st Street Park
Remember the Music-Remember the Music is an unabashed “Star-Spangled” salute to great music from the past and present, good food, and our American military! Live entertainment on three outdoor stages will include The Kingsmen, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Danny & The Juniors, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Joey Dee & The Starliters, The Yardbirds, and the Michielsen Jazz Ensemble Big Band.

The Atlanta Rhythm Section released 15 albums of excellent original material, and consistently put on entertaining live shows - both of which helped establish a broad if not huge fan base. They’ve had some huge hits and been a major player in the Southern Rock scene. Atlanta Rhythm Section will be featured on the 31st Street Park stage on Friday, May 28, from 9:30pm-11:00pm.

Danny & The Juniors will perform from 9:30pm-11:00pm at the 17th Street Park stage on Saturday, May 29. Early in 1958 D*** Clark presented Danny & The Juniors a gold record for “At The Hop” on “American Bandstand,” the first of many awards and accolades they would receive over their career, including Best New Group of 1957 and the prestigious Philadelphia Music Alliance Achievement Award more recently. With the success of “At The Hop,” Danny & The Juniors began touring with the other early legends and founders of American Rock & Roll such as: Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, and The Platters. To this day they have traveled millions of miles and entertained millions of people in all fifty states, Canada, Europe, South America and Asia.

Joey Dee & The Starliters will be featured at the 24th Street Park Stage from 9:30pm-11:00pm on Sunday, May 30. Joey Dee & The Starliters were discovered while working at a nightclub called Oliveri's in Lodi, New Jersey, by a New York City agent named Don Davis. They were booked for a weekend at an obscure New York City night club called the Peppermint Lounge which was located on West 45th Street. What was to be a weekend stand escalated into a 13-month run! After many decades and many hits, Joey continues to tour regularly around the U.S. and Canada.

Military bands to be featured at Remember the Music-Remember the Music include the U.S. Fleet Forces Band Wind Ensemble (Friday, May 28, 8:00pm-9:30pm at the 24th Street Park) and the U.S.A.F. Heritage of America Band Satellite Jazz Ensemble (Saturday, May 29, 8:00pm-9:30pm at the 24th Street Park).

The “Heroes Walk” display stretches along the boardwalk from 17th to 31st Streets. Original essays written by local high school students are reproduced on four by eight foot banners easily read by passers-by. These essays describe the military conflicts in which the United States has been involved throughout history. They help to remind us of the price that has been paid and is still being paid today by the United States military.
