DESCRIPTION:Steel Pier Classic & Surf Art Expo has grown to become one
  of the premier surfing events on the East Coast. The competition, whi
 ch will bring more than 400 amateur and professional surfers to Virgin
 ia Beach this weekend, now\nincludes a shortboard category along with 
 divisions for tandem surfing, nose riding and paddle boarding. Surfers
  will compete for a total purse of more than $13,000.\nMore than just 
 a sporting event, the Steel Pier Classic also focuses on the art of su
 rfing and the culture around it. Professional artists will display the
 ir surf-related paintings, jewelry and crafts on the Boardwalk, and lo
 cal students will hold their own show on the beach. There will be auto
 graph sessions with songwriter/surfer Donavon Frankenreiter and champi
 on surfers Shane Dorian, Greg Long and Keala Kennelly, as well as surf
