 n 500 babies are admitted to CHKD’s NICU. Many have been born premat
 urely---some as much as 16 weeks before they are due---while others fa
 ce life-threatening illnesses or birth defects. CHKD’s NICU babies n
 eed highly specialized equipment to help them survive, from temperatur
 e- and humidity-controlled incubators, to high-frequency ventilators, 
 to minute versions of everyday items like blood pressure cuffs and dia
