 icated to promoting horticultural and environmental awareness through 
 displays, education and research. The Arboretum was dedicated in Novem
 ber, 1996, and boasts one of Virginia’s finest trail systems that wa
 nders through a 43-acre mature hardwood forest with many varieties of 
 trees and plants.\n\nOn the grounds of the farmhouse that serves as th
 e Arboretum Headquarters building are a number of theme gardens, inclu
 ding fragrance and antique rose gardens, as well as several demonstrat
 ion gardens. Periodic events are held on our grounds, including Arbor 
 Day, Our annual Garden Party, a “Junior Gardeners” class for child
 ren, Walk-a-thons, etc. The Arboretum won two 1999 Chesapeake environm
 ental awards: The Adult Community Organization Award, and the Mayor’
 s Outstanding Service Award.\n\nThe Chesapeake Arboretum is non-profit
  and depends on donations, contributions, volunteers and membership du
