 t events will unfold along the beautiful Virginia Beach Oceanfront as 
 the Chalk the Walk ARTsplosion and 17th Street Art Festival take cente
 r stage from 10:00am-7:00pm on Saturday, July 25, 2009. Both events ta
 ke place in the park and along the boardwalk at 17th Street.\n\nChalk 
 the Walk\nAt the Chalk the Walk, participants draw four by four foot c
 halk drawings right on the boardwalk!\n\nThis year’s theme is “Und
 er the Sea.” All Chalk the Walk participants are encouraged to incor
 porate the theme in their work!\n\n200 competitors will complete chalk
  drawings to be evaluated by a panel of judges. Judges will score the 
 drawings according to criteria such as composition, use of color, adhe
 rence to theme, and creativity. There will be three competitive divisi
 ons: Amateur, Professional, and Youth. The Youth division will be for 
 ages 12-16. Children 11 and under will be invited to draw for fun in a
  separate area. Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded for each divi
 sion. Winners will be announced at 4:30pm at the registration tent. Th
 e hours for the Chalk the Walk are 10:00am-5:00pm. All participants mu
 st register by 1:00pm to qualify for the competition. All drawings mus
 t be completed by 3:30pm to be eligible for prizes.\n\nAdvance registr
 ation for Chalk the Walk is not required. There is no fee to participa
 te, but it is recommended that artists bring their own chalk.\n\n17th 
 Street Art Festival\nThe 17th Street Art Festival will be held simulta
 neously in the 17th Street Park. This unique art show is dedicated to 
 local and regional artists. Approximately 30 artists representing medi
 a such as paintings, jewelry, sculpture, and photography set up booths
  in the park to display and sell their work. Live entertainment helps 
 create a relaxed, inviting atmosphere for all.\n\nThe hours of the 17t
 h Street Art Festival are 10:00pm-7:00pm, and the event is free to the
