SUMMARY:4th Annual JT Walk & Beach Party for ALS
DESCRIPTION: \nSunday, October 9\nMeet @ Ocean Beach Club  9AM\nWalk
  Begins at 11AM\nBeach Party Begins at 1PM @ 31st St. Park\n \nJOIN A
TEAM OR DONATE HERE\n \nWhen we started the JT Walk we never expecte
d to become the largest ALS walk in America. With this kind of incredi
ble participation we are now able to expand the reach of our event to
include a focus on kids. The 4th annual JT Walk & Beach Party will be
the most influential single day fundraiser in Hampton Roads. With your
help we will not only raise funds for ALS, but also support worthy c
hildren’s charities like CHKD and even take Grommet Island on th
e road. There really are no limits to what a group of highly motivated
people with a passion for a friend and a cause can do.\n \nABOUT THE
JT WALK:\nIn 2007, a group of young men that had been raised together
in Virginia Beach decided they wanted to find a way to give something
back to the community and formed the Virginia Gentlemen Foundation. W
hen Chris Thompson, a founding member, received news that his brother,
Josh, was diagnosed with ALS, The Virginia Gentlemen decided to make
the fight against ALS their goal as well. Working with the local ALSA
chapter their first initiative, named \"The Keys to Life Program\" hel
ped patients with transportation to and from medical appointments, but
it didn't stop there.\n \nIn 2008, the Virginia Gentlemen partnered
with ALSA in the local Walk. This annual walk, previously held at The
Botanical Gardens, was moved to the oceanfront boardwalk to accommodat
e the expected attendance. What started out as one team in the Hampton
Roads ALS walk has now become the National ALS Foundation's largest s
ingle day walk and fundraiser, raising over $4 million to date for ste
m cell research for neurological disorders, ALS patient services and t
he creation of JT's Grommet Island Beach Park & Playground for EveryBO
DY.\n \nOver the last 3 years more than 20,000 people have gathered a
t the Virginia Beach oceanfront to participate in what is now known as
the JT Walk & Beach Party. This year promises an even bigger turnout.
