Folk Music Isn't Puff the Magic Dragon Any More! - Do the words Folk Music really turn you off. Do you see visions of the Kingston Trio and Peter Paul & Mary when you hear the words Folk Music? Now they were and are great entertainers but folk music has evolved to much more then the hootenanny/sing-a-long of the sixties. The term folk music is now an umbrella for many genres that just don't fit anywhere else. How do names like Steve Forbert and Janis Ian, David Wilcox, Slaid Cleaves, Tommy Emannual, Robert Earl Keen and Jonathan Edwards sound? Well they are just a few of the artists who have walked across the Tidewater Friends of Folk Music stage. TFFM has been bringing such performers to the area for many, many years presenting Blues, Bluegrass, Celtic, Old Time, Americana, Singer/Songwriter, Folk and Folk Rock. Tidewater Friends of Folk Music has been the Folk Arts Forum for Southeastern Virginia for over 38 Years

The Tidewater Friends of Folk Music is a membership based non-profit 501(c3) organization, run strictly by volunteers who are dedicated in bringing quality music to the Hampton Roads area. TFFM was formed to advance, preserve, and promote traditional, contemporary and world music in the community through the sponsorship of concerts, work-shops and related activities. TFFM provides a focus for anyone who enjoys music and its culture.

All shows are at the Meyrea E. Oberndorf Central Library, formally known as the Virginia Beach Central Library. The shows are in the newly renovated library theater which seats 247 and has a very intimate feel, there's not a bad seat in the house. We provide the sound and use the BOSE LI System, so sound in the theater is amazing. Shows are on select Saturday nights September through May and begin at 7:30PM. Members of TFFM receive a $4 discount on admission. Seating is open. Reservations to any show are suggested and can be made by calling 757.626.FOLK(3655) ...there's that F word again!
