Event Description

Celebrate children by participating in a free family-focused event filled with fitness and fun activities on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mount Trashmore Park.

Activities will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a family 1.5-mile walk-run around Lake Trashmore.  All participating children will be awarded a medal for their efforts. Trophies will be awarded for the first child, first family, fastest participant and the first military family.  Schools participating in the School Challenge also will have the opportunity to win a trophy by having the most participants from their school.

To register in advance for the walk/run, submit the Celebrating Children Walk/Run registration formby mail, fax or e-mail.  Registration is also available the day of the event. Following the walk-run, enjoy live entertainment and child-friendly games and activities, and visit interactive exhibits to learn more about healthy parent-child interactions.

All activities are free and open to the public.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Month of the Military Child. As part of Families for a Lifetime’s and the City of Virginia Beach’s campaign to promote happy, healthy families and children, Celebrating Children will conclude the month of awareness. The event is sponsored by Families for a Lifetime, Noblemen, Noblewomen, VA Premier Health Plan and GrowSmart.  Families for a Lifetime is a partnership between the city Department of Human Services Pendleton Child Services Center, military and local nonprofit family-centered organizations.  Families are provided with information and resources to support and strengthen the parent-child relationship.  For more information, call (757) 385-4537or visit Pendleton Child Services Center.
